Health risks associated with drinking from your hot water tap.

Because of the temperature and the fact that water heater tanks are not flushed completely or at all, there is the risk of bacterial growth inside of tanks. Although the level of bacteria will vary based on many factors, the likely hood of contracting an illness from drinking from hot water taps is very real. Different types of bacteria thrive or die in different temperatures of water, but some thrive in 110-120 degree water which is what the normal temperature setting of water heaters is. Some are not killed off until water reaches 140 degrees. I am no scientist so I’ll leave the research and decision up to the individual, but based on what I have seen come out of the hundreds of old water heater tanks that I have pumped down over the years, I would never drink or allow my family or pets to consume water from the hot water tap. The pile of sediment and cysts that I have seen pumped out of the bottom of the water heater speaks loud enough for me. I would encourage you to research this and make up your own mind before making that next baby bottle or cup of cocoa.
